SIMLA & HIMACHAL PRADESH Burial Records 1829-1945 CD

A collection of about 4244 burial records transcribed from surveys and burial records found in Simla, the summer capital of British India. When the heat reached unbearable temperatures the British and their government migrated to the hills from Calcutta in pursuit of more temperate climes. Surrounding Simla in the neighbouring hills were other hill stations which were homes to several military cantonments. There are some famous deaths in Simla notably Sir Alexander Lawrence, eldest son of Sir Henry Lawrence of the Punjab who came to grief when his horse slipped on the Hindo-Tibetan highway. He is buried in Kanlog Cemetery. The gravestone still exists. Lord Elgin is buried in Dharmsala.
